1 Corinthians 13:8-13
Faith, Hope, and Love -The Three Great Virtues of Life
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Hebrews 6:17-20
Hope is the Anchor to the Soul
17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
Do you believe in hopeful thinking?...Do you want to stay positive, then be hopeful...
We need hope and we get hope in life from different people and religion and other things...Sigmund Freud regarded God and His Son as an illusion based on our infantile thinking that we need a Great Father Figure...God, in Freud's view, helped us avoid pain and suffering, by believing in this Great Father Figure...This Great Father Figure gives us hope with all the world and suffering going on in oneself and in the world...And Karl Marx took a similar view...Marx said that religion is the opiate to the masses, in a suffering world...Both Freud and Marx were atheists...
Both views are entirely different than the belief in God and Christianity...God sent His Son to offer a message of hope...On Christmas Day, Hope was born...And an interesting thing happens in the gospels...Jesus heads and goes toward those that suffer and need help and need hope...
St. Paul says there are three great virtues they are faith, hope, and love...The author of Hebrews tells us that hope is the anchor to the soul...Christianity believes that the world is a suffering world, and everyone will suffer in life...Jesus suffered on the cross and died...Each of us will suffer in life and eventually die on this earth...But Jesus offers us the hope of the resurrection, and that hope is the anchor to our souls...Hope is not a negative thing, but a positive belief...Hope truly anchors one's soul...
