Hebrews 2:5-18
Jesus Made Like His Brothers
5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified:
"What is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
7You made him a little lower than the angels;
you crowned him with glory and honor
8 and put everything under his feet."
In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him. 9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
10In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12He says,
"I will declare your name to my brothers;
in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises." 13And again,
"I will put my trust in him." And again he says,
"Here am I, and the children God has given me."
14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. 17For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
The author of Hebrews tell us that God made Jesus below the angels for a little while...This was while He was on earth...
Now everything is under Him...God left nothing that He is not subject to Him...Jesus suffered and died for us, that we might live...Then He was resurrected...
Jesus was not made like the angels...The angels are one thing and Jesus is another...God sent Jesus to help man...Jesus could be observed by man...Believers and nonbelievers alike could watch His actions...They could see His deeds...They could hear His words...They heard and saw Him...They could see if His actions, followed His words...Jesus spoke so deeply, and intellectually about God, the Father, that it is hard to understand...We can read about Him (in the Bible)...Only by faith in the Father and Son can we understand what He was telling us...It was not angels Jesus helped, but the descendants of Abraham...
Jesus is faith, hope, and love...How do you define faith, hope and love?...Faith and hope are things we look forward to happening...Love is a powerful feeling and emotion, that is happening now...Faith, hope, and love cannot be seen...We need to hold on to these three virtues forever...St. Paul says of the three virtues love is the greatest...It is difficult to understand love, but one knows when they are in it...It is difficult to explain love, for someone who has never loved...St. Paul explains love best in chapter thirteen of 1 Corinthians 13...
Since the time of Moses there was a High Priest...In the Tabernacle, in the most Holy place, the High Priest communicated to God for the people...Jesus became our High Priest...He is the one who fully communicates to God for us...Jesus died for our sins...He became a man, and like all men was tempted...Because He was tempted, He is able to help us, who are being tempted...
God's plan was to send Jesus and not an angel...Jesus was a man, a Divine Man...Jesus overcame sin and temptation, in our world with the help of God...We can overcome sin and temptation in this world too, with the help of God, through the Son...Jesus overcame death, with God's help...Nothing cannot be overcome...Jesus was resurrected from death...His body lived after He had died...He came and met with Hi disciples after His death...He was more than with them in Spirit...He ate broiled fish with them (Luke 24:42)...Jesus overcame the world...
God is our creator and we were made in His image...He is our heavenly Father...We are His children...He loves us and wants us like any children to be good and to be happy...God's love is great, as is His grace... How great thou art...
