Hebrews 6:13-20
Hope is the Anchor for the Soul
13 When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” 15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.
16 Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. 17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
God made His promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for Him to swear by, He swore by Himself...And He said, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.”...And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised...Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all arguments...God is the Source and Make of all things, there is no one greater...God is unchanging...God is the same yesterday, today, and forever in eternity...Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs and future followers of the LORD of what was promised, He confirmed it with His oath...God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged...God gives us hope...We have this hope, His hope as an anchor for our souls...This hope is firm and secure....It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain of the tabernacle, and is the holies of the holy...Jesus is there at the right hand of God and is our Mediator and Redeemer...Jesus has came and is now our Way to Heaven, our Way to God...
Let us pray and have faith that our hope in the LORD does not get smaller, waver, grow weak, or become dormant...Father help us have this strong and firm hope for You...Theologian John Calvin said, “We should ask God to increase our hope when it is small, awaken it when it is dormant, confirm it when it is wavering, strengthen it when it is weak, and raise it up when it is overthrown.”..
