Luke 20:27-40
Jesus Says God is Not the God of the Dead, but the God of the Living People
27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question. 28 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother. 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless. 30 The second 31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children. 32 Finally, the woman died too. 33 Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
34 Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, 36 and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection. 37 But in the account of the bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ 38 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”
39 Some of the teachers of the law responded, “Well said, teacher!” 40 And no one dared to ask him any more questions.
Hebrews 4:12-13
God's Word is Active
12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus the Same
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
The modern world I think has an impact on God and the Bible...Being so many years away from the people who wrote the Bible, and the people that are the main characters in the Bible, in a time sense are long ago, so some see these characters as long, ago removed...Many see the Bible as an out of date Book and Document that was spoken and written so many thousands of years ago...So some have trouble relating to these old stories and these old cultures and the old ways people did things...The non-believer can say and be perfectly correct in saying that many of the stories and histories are over four and five thousand years ago...
Some believers might tell the non-believer to look at the Bible as symbolism and they can better see today's interpretation of the Bible better...But Creation is still all around us...And if there is Divinity in Creation, that is to say, if God created our world and Mother Nature, then He is near and around us...And if we further believe that Jesus sends us the Holy Spirit, and that the Holy Spirit is indwelt in us, then Jesus and God are alive and in us today, and the Bible is not out of date...And God is Truly the Living God...And if you believe in God then you must believe that He could inspire a Book that would always be alive and active, that is sharper than any double-edged sword...A Book that could penetrate even the human soul and our own indwelt Holy Spirit...So these Truths are very, very old and ancient...But Truths are in fact Truth, because a fact is a fact yesterday, today, and forever...
