Hebrews 11:3
God Formed the Universe Out of His Command
3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
"Creatio Ex Nihilo Physica" means "Creation out of Nothing Physical."..The belief of ex nihilo creation, Latin for "out of nothing," is a fundamental belief in many religions, including Christianity...It posits that God, as the ultimate creator, brought the universe into existence from nothing.
This idea is often contrasted with the notion of ex materia, which suggests that God created the universe from pre-existing matter...This belief teaches that there was some material in the universe or whatever existed and it expanded on this material over time...But the concept of ex materia cannot explain how the material matter or matters got here in creation...The belief in ex nihilo creation emphasizes God's absolute power and transcendence over the universe...While the ex materia concept has its roots in ancient philosophy, it is not a central tenet of Christian theology...Christianity overwhelmingly embraces the ex nihilo creation concept, which posits that God created the universe out of nothing...
Professor John Lennon believes in the concept of "Creatio Ex Nihilo Physica" means "Creation out of Nothing Physical."..John Lennox is making a distinction here between the physical universe and the spiritual realm...He argues that God created the physical world out of something that existed before it, likely something spiritual or metaphysical...God's Existence is assumed by Lennox assumes that God exists...The Impossibility of Absolute Nothing: If God exists, then "absolute nothing" cannot exist...There must be something from which creation originated...Lennox suggests that God created the physical universe out of spiritual or metaphysical realities, not from a literal "bag of nothing."...The Biblical Perspective: He points to Hebrews 11:3, which suggests that God created the visible universe out of invisible realities...
Essentially, Lennox is proposing a modification to the traditional understanding of "Creatio Ex Nihilo."...Instead of creating the universe from absolute nothingness, he suggests that God created it from pre-existing spiritual or metaphysical material...
