John 14:6-7
Jesus is Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Hebrews 11:1-3
Defining Faith
1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.
3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
Romans 1:20
Faith in the Invisible Qualities and Creations of God
20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
Acts 17:24-28
God is Not Far From Any of Us
24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
Jesus stood up and a remarkable statement (In fact, He made very many remarkable statements)...Jesus said He is Truth...The Disciples and the others around Him during His time on earth could see Him...They could believe in His physicality and that He was with them, but could they believe that He is Truth...The people could see Him, but they really could not see if He was Truth...Truth is not something you can always see...Sometimes you just have to believe in Truth...And by Him saying this to His Disciples, Truth becomes Personal, because Jesus is Personal...
The author of Hebrews tells us teaches us that faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see...Imagine that, faith is being sure of something you cannot see...You cannot see something, and yet you are sure of it is there and exists...And what is remarkable to me, is that the ancient ones and the ancient believers were commended for this believing in things they could not see...They believed in these things that they could not see and were convinced and certain that these invisible things were near them and truly existed...
So Jesus' Disciples were lucky in this sense, they could both see Him and have faith in Him...Faith and Truth were forever linked by His Disciples in their beliefs...Or faith is only as good and valid as those we put our faith in...So Jesus' Disciples were putting there faith in the Truth...
I believe that also that there are universal truths...For instance, I believe one plus one is two in our country and every country and on every planet...I can put one finger up and put one more up and see two fingers and see two...I can see this universal truth...I also believe that there is gravity on earth that keeps me on earth and holds me there and is constantly pushing and keeping me on earth...I breathe the air, and I know it is their and is comprised of oxygen, nitrogen and other chemicals...Gravity is a universal truth and the air is a universal truth...They have science and physics type equations and laws about gravity and the air, and they certainly and convincingly exist...And in the study of science we can learn about these things and more on how they exist...And yet, we cannot see these two universal truths, but we know they exist...And why I said it is remarkable that the ancient ones believed in these invisible qualities and universal truths of God, is they had little science and no physics to speak of -and yet they believed and were rightfully commended for believing in things that they could not see...
Most of us take many, if not all, of the invisible Natural Laws for granted and do not associate them with belief or faith...This is true even though we cannot see them...But on the subjects of God and His Son -this is completely different... Nothing is taken for granted it seems in a serious discussion of God and His Son...And particularly, His Son seems to be a controversy for many non-believers, but that is the way He must want it...And to me, it is interesting how we take for granted certain things like the air, which is all around us, and where the wind comes from, and how did the jet streams get here and we talk about la nina and el nino -we somehow and quite intuitive or naturally accept these type things... These things are just here, we cannot see them and that is alright and we do not need much explanation on them to believe in them as they do the things that they do...(How did these things just get here?)...But now take God and Jesus...They must prove their existence to us...So many want to see Them or see Them do a miracle that is not invisible to get them to believe and have faith...
As we think about the millions of Natural Laws that exist, let us look only at just one of them...Let us take the sun...Let us think about the sun and how it makes each day anew with it rising...Let us think about the beautiful sunset as it slips away and down in the west...Let us think about the angle of the sun on the earth and how it provides light...Let us think about the size of the sun, and that is the right size not to burn up and scorch the earth, while it is not too small to make it unbearably cold and lifeless...Let us think about the distance of the sun from earth and it was too close and what it would do...Let us think about how it was further away from earth how our planet would be affected...Let us think about the sun and how it helps us measure one day...Let us think about the sun and how it helps us measure our seasons...Let us think about the sun and how it helps us to measure the full year...And these are just a small amount on one subject, in the millions of Natural Laws that God created...And these are things only about the sun...
The ability to see these truths, no it is better to say that one's ability to believe and have faith in these universal truths, one must realize that there is a Universal Truth behind everything...How else did these Truths get here?...There is something Spiritual in not only nature, but our human nature...And these were a part of the Natural Laws that God made for us during His creation process...The certainty of many of these Truths are not seen by the eye- and yet most people know that they are there (and again just take them for granted)...These universal truths exist and they do not change...Gravity exists, the air exists, the sun exists, and they do not change...These universal truths do not change and we cannot see them and they are made out of non-materialistic things as defined by physics...They are invisible yet, they are always near and around us...We must borrow from God and His organization for earth and the universe and His Creation process to believe that there are unchanging, invisible, universal truths out there that definitely do exist...He too is out there and does exist, in the midst of all His Truths...
