John 1:1-14
Jesus is the Word
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 14:6-7
Jesus is the Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
John 17:15-19
God's Word is Truth
15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus is the Same Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
St. John teaches us that Jesus is the Word, and that the Word is Truth...And in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...Jesus was with God in the beginning...Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made...In Him is life, and that life is the Light of all mankind...The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it...And God's Word is Truth...
Jesus stood up two thousand years ago and told His Disciples that He is the Truth, and the Way, and the Life -and then added that He is the Only Way to God...Truth is a Person...Truth is a Person of One...This makes Truth Personal...Why believe anything if it is not true?...Or why believe in anything or Anyone if they are not True or the Truth...Jesus believes He is Absolute Truth, and this is why He says He is Truth...
When Truth is discussed, Truth is what each of us believe in and what we have been taught and how we have experienced Truth in our lives...And if you believe this, then we can see that Truth is Something very Personal...
When thinking about Truth, we should also say what Truth is not...Truth is not always understandable or easily understandable...And we may gain more understanding over time, and learn more about Truth over time...But Truth will always remain the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow and forever...Truth stands the test of time...Truth does not always make us feel good...How we are feeling is just that -how we are feeling...We can feel bad, after someone presents us with a sad truth...And in this respect Truth does not have to be the most popular of things and a popular belief...Since Truth is what we each of us believe the more people that believe in their Truth, does not make it true for you...And we must be careful in what truths we believe in...We can believe in a lie, and that lie can be our truth...But a lie is not the truth...So our personal beliefs can twist the truth into something it is not...But we still may maintain that is our truth and what we believe...And a simple or large majority does not make your truth, truth...Jesus is a Person of One and He said He is Truth...He honestly believes He is the Absolute Truth...The more and more I or someone writes about Truth, does not make what we write about true...Truth does not have to be in detail after detail...The longest explanation for something or Someone is not necessarily true...The longest of books of the world do not have to be true or contain all truths...Truth is not always open, public, and easy to see...Truth can be hidden and remain hidden...We have never known all the truths of the universe...Scientists are discovering more truths each and everyday...So because something or Someone remains hidden does not make it not true...
By Jesus saying He is Truth, makes Truth and the Truths of the world even more interesting...Truth, by Him saying what He said, becomes matters of faith...Truth becomes religious in a way...This is because faith goes with one's religion...But, if we believe Jesus is Absolute Truth, then we believe in all God's Truths...And we can see more easily that there are universal truths given to us on the days of creation and they are the same then as they are today...They will be the same in eternity...And many of these universal truths have been put in the form of mathematical equations...Many truths are narrowly focused or have only one answer...As the math teachers have taught us, there is only one right answer to the question of one plus one plus one...We are not upset with the math teacher, who tells us the only one right answer to that question...Nor should we be upset when we learn that there is only One Answer to the question of the Way to God...
