We've arranged for a tour of a special exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem on Monday, August 4th at 11 am.
Making History: 200 Years of American Art from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) showcases 85 works from the two centuries 1776-1976 . PAFA, founded in 1805, was the first combined art museum and art school in the U.S. The curators have made many interesting choices in juxtapositions of works and themes in this wide-ranging exhibition which features works by G. Stuart, Cassatt, Homer, Hopper, Avery, J, Wyatt, O'Keefe and Eakins. The show also celebrates the work and stories of many other women, people of color and LGBTQ artists and art teachers whose contributions to American art deserve greater prominence.
This hour-long tour is limited to 15 attendees. The tour is $25 payable by check before the visit. Attendees can visit other PEM galleries until the museum's 5 PM closing.
We will be gathering for lunch in the museum's cafe at 12:30. The museum is recommending that those wishing have lunch order online in advance so our meals can be coordinated for the same time.
