Attention history buffs! Did you know that Massachusetts has a highly regarded WWII museum in Hudson, MA? Our visit to this site was recommended by BOLLI members who have visited the American Heritage Museum previously. The mission of the American Heritage Museum is to bring visitors an immersive experience in history to give a greater appreciation for those who lived it and an excitement to learn more.
The Museum is located at 568 Main Street in Hudson. Click here to see the location on a map and to get driving directions.
Our group will convene at the museum site in Hudson at 10:30 am on Sunday, October 27. The average visit time is 2 hours. After our visit, we will have lunch at the Longfellow Wayside Inn in Sudbury. The cost of this trip is $15 per person. Participants are invited to carpool. Because we have booked a Sunday morning tour, we anticipate that the drive from the inner suburbs will take a bit less than 45 minutes.
The limit for this tour is 20 people. Please click here to sign up and make payment.
The Museum is an opportunity to explore America’s conflicts, with a special emphasis on WWII. Through interactive experiences, visitors are guided through history and the human impact of warfare.
Exhibits include sections on WWI and WW2 (including the Pacific War, the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day), the Holocaust, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War and the War on Terror and 9/11.
The Museum is housed in a 66,000 + square foot building. The concept of the American Heritage Museum began when the Foundation was selected to receive the massive collection of tanks, armored vehicles and military artifacts from the family of Jacques M. Littlefield in 2013.
The building was designed to fully engage people in understanding our American history. Through educational interpretation, and a chronologically arranged series of dioramas and exhibits, the American Heritage Museum brings history to life.
Among the variety of rare relics, the American Heritage Museum features over fifteen tanks and artifacts, the only displayed publicly in North America. These include: M1A1 Abrams Tank, T-34 Tank, Kommandogerrat 40 German Rangefinder, Leichter Panzerspähwagen SdKfz 222 Armored Vehicle, Matilda MK.II Tank, Jumbo Sherman Tank, IS-2 Tank, Vickers Mk. VI A, Panzer 1 Tank, SCUD B Missile and Launcher, Ho-Ro mobile artillery and many more.
