Ether Dome at Massachusetts General Hospital and Paul S. Russell MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation
Wednesday February 18, 11 am
Mass General is a medical powerhouse and a pioneer in surgical care, mental health, advanced triage techniques for disasters, transplantation and many other domains. The Ether Dome at MGH catalyzed the use of anesthesia (ether) for surgery in the mid 1800s. More than 8000 operations were performed in this space that's now a cultural landmark. A docent will lead a tour of the dome and then we'll explore the Russell Museum which showcases 200 years of health innovation--in research, clinical care, medical education and social service.
The tour is free. Contact Margot Walthall to reserve your spot and with questions. The museum encourages the use of public transportation; it's a short walk from the Charles/MGH station on the MBTA Redline. For those who drive, please use SpotHero to find public parking options nearby. MGH's parking is for patients and hospital visitors. We will arrange for a lunch after the tour and will communicate that option soon.
