Decoding Back Bay Walking Tour

Join fellow BOLLI members for a tour of Boston's historic Back Bay, a neighborhood rich in architectural history and famous personalities.  We will be participating in a two hour 1 1/2 mile tour, led by Dr. James C. O'Connell, who teaches urban affairs at Boston University and has a long career working for the Northeast Region of the National Park Service.  

While the elephants are gone, we will see the graceful neighborhood that emerged from the wetlands of the Charles River and the Needham hills.  This center of urban culture housed notables that included Isabella Stewart Gardner, architect H.H. Richardson, as well as historic churches, public buildings and landmark green spaces such as the Charles River Esplanade and the Public Garden.  Our tour will begin at the Arlington Street/Commonwealth entrance to the Public Garden and conclude in Copley Square at the Boston Public Library.  Lunch follows at Stephanie's on Newbury Street.
