We will be visiting the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate on Thursday, May 30 at 1 pm. The Institute is dedicated to educating the public about the important role of the Senate in our government, encouraging participatory democracy, invigorating civil discourse, and inspiring the next generation of citizens and leaders to engage in the civic life of their communities. This is an interactive experience, which begins with a private guided tour of the exhibits. We will then enter the model Senate chamber for an hour "Today's Vote" session, where we will hear arguments for and against and participate in a debate on the Electoral College. The group will meet at the UMass Boston Campus Center building Food Court at 12:00 Noon. It is a 6 minute walk each way from the Institute parking lot. Those not joining for lunch will meet our group inside the Institute at 1:00. We expect the tour and session in the Senate to conclude no later than 3 pm.
The centerpiece of the Institute is an exact full-scale replica of the United States Senate Chamber. It is the only replica of the Senate in the world. The Institute's facility is 68,000 square foot building locatd on Columbia Point on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Boston.
The cost of this tour is $9, paid on site. Please contact Mark Seliber mseliber1@gmail.com to reserve your spot.
