A versatile anti-aircraft platform armed with a panoramic SAM launcher and two 23mm 3-barreled rotary guns.
Serves both as anti-infantry and anti-air
Good speed and maneuverability
There is no loss of accuracy for the missiles on the move
The targeting time is almost instant, meaning a target in sight is fired upon immediately
The panoramic missile launcher fires in all directions, resulting in no such delays for weapon rotations
High cost (180 resources)
High cp cost of 3
Higher production time than typhoons
The machine gun has poor accuracy
Machine gun is ineffective against massed vehicles and heavy vehicles
6 missiles per salvo means all missiles may not hit fast targets such as vertexes
The porcupine is primarily a mobile anti air unit
Anti-air - The porcupine is primarily intended to be used as an anti-air unit. The panoramic SAM launcher fires in all directions while stationary and on the move with almost no targeting delay. The porcupine should always be present when a detachment of Jaguars is being used.
Anti-infantry - Due to the machine gun being able to fire both on the ground and in the air, the porcupine is very effective against infantry units. The high damage and rate of fire boost its efficiency. However, the poor accuracy means most of the DPS is dealt when stationary, resulting in it possibly taking more damage. Overall the porcupine kills infantry very effectively.
Anti-vehicle - In some cases, depending on numbers, the porcupine proves effective against vehicles such as hammers and fortresses. It is, however, futile against Zeus, due to the lack of damage against heavy armor. Porcupines can be used to deal with Hammers in moderate numbers, and can support other anti vehicle units such as Grenadiers and Jaguars against Hammers. Against large numbers of enemy vehicles however, the Porcupine might be outclassed.
Map control - The porcupine has a large view radius, good speed and good maneuverability. This makes it very good at controlling the map and killing infantry scouts. It is also faster than most confederation ground units, so it can easily retreat in most cases. Due to its anti-air capability, when the porcupines are scattered over the map, this can impose a blockade, preventing the enemy from comfortably using aviation. When done properly with appropriate repositioning, map control by porcupines can lead to domination of the battle
Support - The porcupine is the most universal and versatile support unit of the resistance. It can back up Jaguars, Grenadiers, Mammoths, Armadillos, Snipers, and most other units. Combinations such as Hawk + Porcupines are very effective at map control and flag capture.
