Chameleon

The real fog of war!!!

A unique vehicle armed with a fog generating system, which makes it a mobile camouflage bank for resistance units

Strengths

  • Highest armor in the armor 2 class

  • Fog effect makes hidden units effectively immune to fighters

  • Multiple chameleons create illusion of your whereabouts, making it harder for an enemy to force fire

  • Good speed and maneuverability

Weaknesses

  • Cannot fire at enemy units, rendering it vulnerable to all units

  • Units hidden under the fog still take full damage if fired upon

  • The epicenter of the fog cloud is spottable, hence it is possible for the chameleon to be roughly targeted during force firing

  • Expensive

  • Takes a long time to produce

  • Active energy supply is limited

  • There is loss of armor in activated mode

How to use

The chameleon serves the purpose of mobile camouflage, which effectively minimizes casualties and protects from enemy fighter planes. The positioning of the chameleon affect how it is used and how effective it is.

Moving cover - The chameleon can be used to protect allied units from direct fire and from fighters when marching your army. The chameleon's fog is kept on while marching and the allied units are kept close either by micro control or by using the march at same speed button.

When attacking or defending, the chameleon can be placed in various ways to effectively use it.

1. Back placement - This is where the fog radius is utilized to the maximum, with one or many chameleons behind the army. The maximum fog radius of the chameleon is 5 cells. This means, a chameleon can sit a maximum of 4 cells behind a row of jaguars, or a maximum of 3 cells behind 2 rows of jaguars. If many chameleons are used, they must be spaced 8-10 cells between each other, to maximize the size of the fog cloud

. This method tends to draw the enemy towards the epicenter of the cloud, which enables the hidden jaguars to deal a lot of damage. The jaguars also avoid splash damage if the chameleon is targeted.

2. Front placement - The exact principles apply as with back placement, except the chameleon is placed at the front. This creates an illusion and to trick the enemy to aim at the chameleon while the units are out of harm's way.

3. Side placement - The army sits in the middle, with 1 or more chameleons on the sides. The chameleons must optimally be placed 8-10 cells apart, to maximize the size of the fog cloud. The army once again avoids damage if the chameleon is targeted.

4. Patrol - This is combined with any of the 3 methods above, but the chameleon is ordered to stay on patrol mode. This results in a moving fog cloud, which the enemy has to constantly aim and re-target, while your units avoid most of the damage. In most cases, the fog leaves an afterimage, meaning that when the chameleon moves, the epicenter of the cloud is not shifted immediately to the new position. This visual delay causes confusion to the enemy and they might be shooting at the ground thinking they are successfully hitting the chameleon. The chameleon can be patrolled along your units, which causes it to move in a straight line back and forth, or can be patrolled across your units, which makes it move in a semi or full circle around your units

N.B Chameleon is highly vulnerable to Thors and Torrents. Make sure to siege for a short time then move when facing them.
