Energy Shield

The rich kid invited to every party

The Energy Shield is the T3 Special Vehicle that the Confederation fields available from HQ 4 onwards. While by itself completely harmless, as it wields no weapons to speak of, it can deploy a shield bubble which massively reduces all damage taken for itself and all nearby allied ground and navy units, effectively multiplying their survivability.

Strengths

  • Fairly mobile and durable for Confederation standards

  • While active it also is affected by the shield, meaning its a lot more durable than Chameleons when actively used

  • While active it negates about half to 2/3rds of the incoming damage depending on the upgrades

  • Combos well with Zeus due to their innate durability and firepower, making them near unstoppable with an active shield

  • Can also keep pace with Hammers if you want to use them for fast all in attacks

Weaknesses

  • Cannot outright negate damage like Chameleons do by cloaking units under smoke nor can they hide from air raids

  • Completely helpless against anything on its own

  • Priority one target for airstrikes and artillery whenever they get spotted

  • Needs to be very close to your frontline units which can get them killed very quickly if not constantly managed

How to use

Energy Shields are late game support units, as such they are extremely expensive to produce and field, they need to be constantly protected and kept close to your main army without exposing them to enemy air strikes or artillery.

To get the most out of them you want to deploy them right before a battle with your main army, as they help absorb a lot of blows that would normally mean death for your frontline units right away. Keep in mind that the shield bubble has a limited range and active time, so try to gain the upper hand during fights by using brute force to destroy high value targets like Chameleons and large clusters of Jaguars before they run out of energy.

While normally Energy Shields should be kept at the back of the army, so that the units are the front are just in range, it can also be effective to drive activated Energy Shields directly into a Chameleon cloud when only a few of the units inside are left.

You should always have a backup shield at the ready in case you lose one of them during combat, but don’t waste resources by making too many, as the shield effect does not stack with itself and you still need to have an army to use them with. Having backups also is useful if a situation arises where the energy of the main Energy Shield runs out.

Also don’t expose them too much as the enemy can snipe them with jets or artillery before or during combat since losing them will give the enemy a massive edge over your forces in the late game as long as their support vehicles are still operational.

Energy Shield is also vital against splash damage. It significantly weakens the effect of Albatross bombing runs and that of the Leviathan active nuke ability, and in some extreme cases can even allow units to survive the direct hit from a Nuclear Launcher.
