A tower armed with dual 200mm heavy cannons able to deliver good damage to enemy armored vehicles.
High damage against vehicles
Good damage dealt to infantry
Large range
Relatively good armor
Shooting mechanism makes shells instantly reach the enemy(cannot be dodged)
Relatively low hp and armor
Explosion radius is poor
Low accuracy
Ineffective without boosts used
Vulnerable to all aviation
The guntower is best used to support the ground units in defense, rather than being used solo. It is a frontline defensive structure that deals decent damage to enemy vehicles.
Guntowers must always be supported, whether by fodder in front to absorb damage, or jaguars in front to aid in dealing damage.
Additionally, mines and guntowers are a good combination, with the guntower serving the purpose of finishing off remaining units.
Formation - Guntowers are most effective when they are in a line, next to each other to fire equally at the same group of targets. This is due to the moderate range, whereby scattering them does not provide adequate fire to a region.
Bunker rushes - Guntowers are the only for of suitable defense if a bunker rush is encountered while unprepared. They need to be aided by barracks as fodder, so they can avoid taking direct damage from the bunkers and rockets. With boosts used, guntowers become effective if they are kept out of the firing range of enemy vehicles. In frontal direct confrontations with enemy vehicles, guntowers do not stand a chance.
Rush protection - Placement of a guntower in a suitable position in the rear of your base, during a rush attack can be quite helpful. It must be undisturbed during construction, and must be somewhat at a far distance. The fully maxed range of a guntower with gold common defence boost is 12.5 cells, which is very good. This means that with fodder the guntower can stay out of range of enemy units while dealing damage and avoiding taking any damage itself
Wall support - Another way to effectively use a guntower formation is with walls. Walls restrict the enemy passage, and may force the enemy to cluster. This provides room for the splash damage of the guntowers to take effect, rather than firing at single units. With a construction yard placed appropriately behind a line of guntowers, walls can also be placed in such a way to keep enemy units from firing at them, while they deal damage. Sealing off an entrance in this manner, saved the guntower from taking damage while it deals damage to enemy vehicles. Most effectively done with boosts, to heighten the moderate range of the guntowers.
Alternate formation - Inclusion of a construction yard in a guntower line formation optimises the usability of walls, but takes up one slot for firepower output. In this case, it is necessary to aid the defence with units.
Vulnerabilities - Guntowers are highly vulnerable to all aviation, and to enemy artillery. Between the lines of guntowers, it is advisable to place anti air towers for support incase enemy approaches with aviation. Mammoths are capable of covering the guntowers from enemy artillery, so are an option to protect them.
