The Torpedo platform comes equipped with heavy hitting torpedo launchers, capable of sinking both light and heavy warships, while also having a top-mounted Anti-Aircraft missile launcher to deal with any airborne targets that come to close to it.
The Torpedo Platform is first unlocked at HQ2 and comes equipped with 3 main systems used for coastal defense. A torpedo launcher for enemy navy, Hellgate Missiles against airborne targets and sonar to reveal the location of nearby submarines (Barracuda). Combined with its very high HP and Armor values, it is very hard to fight in direct combat. This means its only weaknesses are getting out-ranged by, for example, the Barracuda's missile attack or being attacked by Mammoths from land. To solve this weakness it is recommended to support them with Poseidon, Vertex or Thor.
In general there are a couple of ways to place and use them.
Stonewall defense:
If one isn't planning on going on the water, a line of Torpedo Platforms can be constructed from the resources usually used for the Shipyard, to keep the shores safe from naval and airborne attacks.
Tower Rush
On certain maps (especially Coast of Claws), two players spawn so close to each other that the first torpedo platform to be built will block all the naval buildings placed by the enemy by destroying them. This is especially the case in high leagues and when using boosts, as both upgrades and boosts are capable of increasing the range of naval defenses significantly.
Additional Air Defense
Some maps allow Torpedo platforms to be placed in small ponds surrounding the base, which allows for Torpedo Platforms to be used as much tougher Air defenses, as their HP and Armor values are far superior to the normal Air Defense. They also have a separate build limit from air defenses, allowing for more air defenses overall. One needs to note though that the damage they deal against airborne targets is slightly less than that of the normal Air Defense, but at the same time still stronger than that of the Typhoon.
