Heavily armored bomber plane capable of dealing heavy damage to an enemy even well protected by air defenses.
Higher HP than their counterpart, Thors
Slightly higher armor than the Thor
Higher damage than the Thor
Effective against clustered units
Renders artillery use ineffective (in the absence of an energy shield)
Low speed
Lower explosion radius than Thors
Less damage against the confederation when energy shield is used
Defenseless against confederation fighters
The albatross is primarily intended for piercing an enemy base littered with anti-air defenses, as it has high HP and armor. The albatross bomber can survive multiple anti-air shots, ensuring it can reach targets deep within an enemy base
Targeting Buildings - Albatross can be used to eliminate critical enemy buildings such as airfields, factories and super weapons. They are able to deliver their payload even under heavy fire from anti air. Their number needs to be sufficient however, as sending insufficient bombers may still result in heavy losses or even failing to destroy the intended target.
Support - The albatross can be used to weaken enemy units before an engagement. If enemy positions and formations are determined by proper scouting, it is possible to bomb enemy units while they are stationary. This followed by a ground/fighter raid can turn the tide of battle.
Base defense - A well placed bombing to the advancing enemy can thoroughly weaken them and make it easier to defend the base. An attacking enemy can also be killed using bombers.
Shielding for fighters - Due to their high HP and armor, sending bombers to the enemy base during an air raid followed by fighters, allows the bombers to tank damage for the fighters. This greatly increases the survivability of the fighters, as well as allowing for a greater combined overall damage output.
Baiting - Albatrosses are an extremely easy target for vertexes used by the confederation. Bombing the enemy can entice them to draw out their fighters. This is a chance to get rid of enemy fighters by placing porcupines close to the enemy base, along the flight path of the bombers to the enemy base. When the bombers are chased by the vertexes, the porcupines will deal heavy damage, as the fighters will most likely fly straight overhead.
Anti Artillery - Artillery units in mass can pose a serious threat to ground units. Due to artillery firing only while stationary, it is easy to get a clean hit with albatrosses. The albatross renders artillery unplayable. However, caution needs to be taken by checking the number of enemy mobile air defenses, and being careful of enemy fighter support.
Important note: Albatross cannot be used effectively on maps with large expanses of sea, and large maps in general, due to the inability to cover them effectively. Albatrosses must only be used on maps where it is possible to cover them along their flight path with porcupines. Albatrosses suffer colossal casualties against vertexes, so proper discretion must be taken before opting for them. It is safe to play them after eliminating enemy aviation.
