COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

This course will give students a practical and theoretical understanding of what’s needed to conduct a criminal appeal. Topics covered include: the procedural process; judicial interim release pending appeal; standards of review; the appeal record/evidence on appeal; written and oral appellate advocacy; appellate relief; leave applications to the Supreme Court and other appellate matters.


Students will have the opportunity to watch and critique an appeal, and follow an appeal through the entire process of commencement to resolution. There will be multiple opportunities to improve your writing.




SPECIAL COMMENTS:

This is a practice-focused course and assignments are designed to prepare students to become better at appellate advocacy and making oral submissions.
