COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to, and critical examination of, the contemporary relationship between law and religion. Through examining Canadian jurisprudence and academic commentary, this course examines various aspects of this relationship, including, for e.g., how the concept of “religious freedom” has evolved in Canadian law, how the Charter of Rights and Freedoms operates in relation to Canada’s commitment to religious freedom, and how the concept of authority is implicated in encounters between law and religion.
