COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is an introductory course on intellectual property (IP). The course examines fundamental principles and legal rules governing the main forms of IP (copyright, patents, trademarks, and industrial designs) in Canada. For each form of IP, students will learn eligibility, scope of protection, exceptions and limitations, infringement, and enforcement. The course will also cover public interest in IP and the legal protection of traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions.
