These three pieces are all made to depict negative space. They are practice for drawing the air around things and not adding inner details. For the hands, I only drew the outline of my hand and shaded the outside. For the leaves, I drew the white spots around the leaves. Even without drawing the shape of the leaf itself, drawing the negative space still makes it look like a leaf because the two spaces go together like a puzzle piece.

The zentangle is just Micron fineliner pens with some colored pencil and the hands are just graphite. The leaves have more materials. I used graphite pencil for the original sketch, and then traced over that with a Micron pen. All the black seen in the drawing is pen, and the red is a Prismacolor pencil. Some of the extra details are alcohol markers. The entire piece is on printmaking paper.

For the leaves piece, I had an original idea of something resembling a stained-glass style sun with a color palette inspired by a video game character. I changed the idea after watching someone make dolls. All the little pieces that go into moveable dolls are interesting, and it's October, so I erased the original idea and went with puppets. I drew the dolls and the strings in a study hall, so I managed to get some advice from friends. One of them said I should add splitting to the strings to make it seem older and creepier. I decided to add shades of red as the only other color in order to keep the theme creepy. I decided to use the red as an outline for the strings to make them pop more.
