plaster and acrylic paint
This is my plaster hands sculpture cast from an alginate mold.
The materials that I used for this project are alginate, which the mold was made of, and plaster that I poured into the mold. The things that I used for surfacing are acrylic paint, a paint pen, and wool for the noses and hair. I also used a painted playing card and a tissue paper & wire flower with a modeling clay face in it. Originally I had also used some watercolor paint, but I didn't like how it looked.
When I made the mold for this sculpture, I had no idea what I was going to do with it, so I decided what to do after I had the plaster hands. I wanted to something that involved holding a card and also a flower, and since I made the flower red I added the clown face inside of it. For the actual painting of the hands, I had a bunch of ideas of how to paint the clowns. I eventually deided to make the fingers the legs. I started with watercolor paint, but it looked too patchy so I switched to acrylic. I used a paint pen to fill in the white space, and then felted a bunch of noses and the hair for the clowns.
