Charcoal and Ink on Pastel Paper

This unit was about using charcoal and ink to create realistic drawings. The materials that we could use were ink and charcoal. For the value strip I used both ink and charcoal, but for the main piece I only used charcoal. The first drawing is a value strip and the second is the final drawing.

The value strip was made with charcoal, india ink, and a sharpie pen. The drawing was made with charcoal and charcoal pencils in both white and black. I also used a tortillion for blending.

Since we had to use a picture that we took, I decided to use this picture that I took of my friend inside the fish bubble at LL Bean. The most difficult part of this picture was the glare from the lighting and the reflected coats in the background. Since my friends name is Lucy, I named the drawing after the Beatles song, Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds because when we were little we thought it was cool that there was a song with the same name as her, and we had absolutely no idea what the actual meaning was.
