Map Design

Clown Town

9" x 12"

Marker on Watercolor paper

This a personal map of a Saturday for me. I picked Saturday because it's the easiest map I could draw, the path from my room to the basement.

I started this project on a piece of 11" x 15" watercolor paper, and I drew my map line with micron pen. Then I started using watercolor to paint it, but I didn't like the idea so I switched to a 9" x 12" piece of watercolor paper. I used Micron pen for all the outlines, and I started coloring with watercolor. I switched to using marker instead, so the only part that is still watercolor is the clown's face and the little lights.

The original idea for the project was for it to be a side view of my house, and as it went down the house would slowly change into a dungeon or something because the basement is where I play video games. I changed by mind about that one right before it was due, and I decided to make this circus scene to match up with my other clown drawing. I made it a circus because I always feel very silly when I go and sit in the basement for ten hours.
