Glossy and Satin Matte Glaze on Clay
This was the multiple pinch pot project, where you made something out of at least five pinch pots. I made this sculpture of a clown that I drew for a project in 2D design.
I started by sketching out which parts would be pinch pots. Then, I made one pinch pot for the base, and two for the head. I stuck them all together and then poked a hole through the bottom. The nose and the hair are all pinch pots, and I used over 17 pinch pots in all. (I don't remember exactly how many but it was definitely more than 17) After it was fired, I used shiny red glaze HF-165 for the hair and nose , shiny white glaze HF-11 for the face, and shiny black glaze HF-1 for the eyes. The neck/shirt thing was painted with Satin matte glaze, and I used yellow SM-63 for the base and green SM-44 for the dots.
Originally, I wanted the clothes part to be shiny as well, but I didn't want to use the thin glaze, so I went with satin matte because there was no glossy light yellow or green. I actually ended up liking how that turned out though, because it gives it a different texture from the head, and makes it look more like clothes.Â
I think the finished product was very successful, I really like how it turned out. The red looks really good, although the eyes are slightly lopsided.
