Eccentric Teapot

I came up with the idea of a dinosaur teapot because my favorite type of dinosaur is the brontosaurus, which has a very long body and neck, and would make a perfect teapot. I also wanted it to match the dinosaur dish that I made in ceramics I, which is how I picked the color scheme.

I started this project by making an oval shaped pinch pot. Since I wanted to keep the opening at the top small, I cut it in the half and then attached it back together after making it the right size and shape. I added the tail after that, and then started working on the lid and the neck. For the neck, I rolled out a slab and then rolled it into a tube. I took a random piece of clay and poked a hole into it in order to make the head and mouth of the dinosaur. When I made the lid, I added stegosaurus spine on top as the handle because that is my second favorite type of dinosaur. I added a flange on the lid, but I had to sand it down before glazing my pot because it wouldn't fit in properly. I decided to add legs kind of last minute because it looked weird without them. The problem with that was that the teapot body was almost leather hard when I attached them. I used the green C-41 glaze for almost all of the teapot, because I think green is a very dinosaur color. I used the orangey pink C-55 for the handle, and that way the teapot matched my two dinosaur dishes. I used two dots of black HF-1 for the eyes. When I was glazing, one of the legs fell off. I just kept putting more glaze on it to keep it on, and that did end up working after it was fired.

I'm pretty happy with it overall, and I like how it looks. If I were to do anything differently, I would try to work faster and adjust some things like how the neck attaches to the body, and I would make the feet bigger. Other than that, there's nothing else I would change.

The brontosaurus is my favorite dinosaur, but I used a brachiosaurus skeleton for reference.
