Lidded Jars

For this project, I started out with the idea of making raccoons in a trash can. The raccoons would be the lids and the trashcans would be the jars. The technique used for this project was to make pinch pots, which is how I started the bases of the trashcans, and the raccoons.

I made the base of the trashcans out of a pinch pot, and then I added a flat rectangle around the top of them to make them taller. For the raccoon head, I made a pinch pot and then added on the nose and ears, as well as the sides to give it a raccoonier shape. The jar for the second pot was supposed to be the back of the raccoon so that the tail could be the handle, but I unfortunately didn't finish in time, and it got too hard to work with.  For glazing, I used HF-1 on the trashcan, which is black. I used SM-10 on the raccoon head, which is satin matte white. I used that color because there wasn't a brown that I liked.

The original plan for the tail to be a handle was for the back of a racoon sticking out of the trashcan, and then having the tail stuck on the side of the can, so that it was actually a handle for the jar and not the lid. I also made a little platform for the feet, however that was the jar that failed, so I just have the raccoon head jar.

Technically this project is only half finished because there is only one jar and lid. I don't really like it. If I were to do it again, I'd try to actually finish both of them in time, and I'd also pick different glaze so that it looks more like a raccoon.
