Alien Princess

Artist Statement:

Drawing this piece was quite an adventure. For this project I got a prompt that said, "An Alien Princess doing Jumping Jacks on her Bed." My innitial thoughts were like, "What the heck am I suposed to do about that?!" But then, after about 15 minutes, of thinking and coming up with ideas I was like, wait, nobody knows what aliens look like and nobody knows what their beds look like so this could be easier than I initially had thought.

For the alien I decided to go with a humanoid squid-like creature. I felt that it was going to be easier to create the alien doing jumping jacks if she had tenticles rather that actual hands and feet. For the head I actually looked up a picture of the Miraak Dragon Priest mask from the video game Skyrim for inspiration. For the bed that the alien princess is jumping on I just made a weird platform thing that I decided was her bed because, as I mentioned before, nobody knows what alien beds look like.

For this project I used a 4H drawing pencil and an HB drawing pencil for the alien and the bed. After I was done with the alien and the bed the page looked a little empty but I had no idea what I was going to do with the background. I thought I might make an interior of an alien ship or an alien planet. But I decided I wanted the main picture to jump out, so I used charcoal, which I have never used before, for the background.
