Artist Statement:

For this piece I decided to do a dragon eye. I chose to do this because when I was making scratchboard art a little while ago and when I was just fiddling around with some scrap pieces of scratchboard I made a really good eye picture. I decided to do a dragon eye because I thought it would be interesting to make scales by scratching.

For materials I used a 6B grapphite pencil, some carving tools, and a clay sgraffito tile.

When I created this piece I first sketched out my idea onto a piece of paper, and then, using the sketch as a reference, I drew on the sgrafittio tile with a 6B pencil and then used the scraping tools to scrape away the ink on the tile. Sometime during this process I broke the corner off but we fixed it with glue and fired it in the kiln so it stuck together.
