Artist Statement: The Hallway

This piece is a drawing/painting of the only hallway in my house. For it, I took a picture of the hallway facing my sister's room, the door streight down the hallway. I used a vanishing point which is located somewhere on my sister's door and drew all of the lines facing toward that point.

For materials I used a ruler to make sure all of the lines were streight. For the first stage of the drawing, I used a 2H graphite drawing pencil to make all of the lines so I could erase them if I messed up. After finishing up with the 2H pencil, I used some drawing pens to go over the lines, again using the ruler, to finalise them. After I finished all of the lines, I colored it using watercolor paints.

My favorite part about this piece is the smoke detecter and it's shadow, I feel that it really helps to show where the light is coming from. One thing that I would change about this piece if I were to do it agian would be the lighting. I definetly did not do the lighting very well. I had an image in my head that made the lighting look really cool but I then executed it poorly which I feel took away from the piece. Overall, I am happy about how it turned out and I would not mind making another piece lik this.
