Artist Statement: Fallen Leaves

For this piece of artwork I glued six leaves onto a pice of paper and on another piece of paper, I drew the negitive space, the space around the leaves not the leaves themselves, and filled it in with color. When I was choosing the colors to fill the negitive space I consulted with my sister to find out what she wanted to see in the negitive space and she said that she wanted to see fall colors in the negitive space.

For materials in this piece of artwork I started out by drawing each of the leaves on the paper lightly using the 2H and the 4H. I then touched them up a little and went over the lines with a 6B pencil to darken the lines. After I was done drawing the leaves, I went around the leaves with a stick eraser to erase any sketch lines that were still there, and if I messed up with the 6B pencil I erased it as much as I could and then went over the messed up lines with a white-charcoal pencil to make the lines less noticable. After drawing the leaves I then painted streaks of color in the negitive space with watercolor paints and then went over the streaks with water to blend them together.

Overall, I personally didn't enjoy making this piece of artwork very much. This is because of all of the tiny details on the outside edges of the leaves because copying them done was a very long and annoying process. I did enjoy the painting though. I haven't done much painting in the past and especially not on school projects so this was the only fun part about this project for me.
