Artist Statement

I started this piece by making a sketch of the duck, then, rather than color in the duck, I decided to paint the background. After that, I colored in the duck. I think that I should have just stuck with paints on this piece rather than incorporate colored pencils into it, the colored pencil didn't work as well as I thought it would.

For materials, I used a 4H graphite drawing pencil for the sketch of the duck. I then used watercolor paints to color in the background. After that, I used colored pencils to color in the duck and to play around with the background, I don't think that I should have used colored pencils for the water.

Overall, I am not too happy with this piece because it was supposed to be quite realistic which mine didn't end up being. What I would do differently if I were to make this piece again would be to not have color and just shade it in using graphite, which I much prefer over color.
