Artist Statement:
For this piece I had to create a piece of art with a message that realted to organ and tissue donation for the Donate Life Design competition. I decided to make a 2D illistration with pen and watercolors to get an almost story-book feel.
For materials I used a hard graphite pencil for the sketch and then went over all of the lines with a black fine point pen. For the color I decided to go with water color paints for two reasons: one, I want to improve my skill with the medium, and two, I like working with watercolor paints.
From the get-go I pretty much knew what I was going to do and sketched it out quite quickly. A part that made me stall a little was trying to incorporate more subjects into the piece as to make it not look very bland and more dynamic. Unfortunatly while flattening the piece I somehow got some green pastel on it from who knows where which made me a little annoyed. Overall, I am pretty pleased in how it turned out with the only improvements being to fill in all of the little white spaces I left and neatening up the lettering.
