Gelli Prints

Artist Statement: Colored Gelli Print

There was no real inspiration for this piece, it is just an abstract piece of art that I created. Though I did not have an idea about how this piece would turn out, I am super happy about how it ended up looking.

Materials I used included block printing ink, a gelli block to put the ink on, a piece of paper to print on, a torn up piece of paper for the designs, and some colored markers to color in the spaces that the pieces of paper left after printing.

I started out with just a gelli block which I then rolled block printing ink onto. After the block was covered with ink I placed ripped up pieces of paper on top to create the spaces I did not want ink on my paper. I then pressed a piece of paper onto the block and removed it to show the places that are now filled in with color had no ink in them (as expected and wanted). After that I used some colored markers to fill in all of the blank spaces that the ripped up pieces of paper left behind with color.
