Squirrels are one of my favorite animals, if not my favorite animal. I have also drawn squirrels before and very much liked the outcome so to me it was a no brainer to choose a squirrel to make a sculpture of.

For materials I used newspaper and masking tape for the armature, lminate chips and hot glue for covering the armature, colored paper for the eyes, a log for the base, and a pinecone and some bits of fabric for the nut.

I started out by making a sketch of what I wanted to make, I also annotated the drawing to know my plan. After that was done I started by creating the armature for the sculpture my crumpling up newspapers and taping them together using masking tape. For a base I was going to use a cookie cut out of a log but since it was raining I just went out to my wood pile and found a suitable piece of wood which I think ended up making the sculpture look a lot better. After I secured the armature onto the log I started covering it up. In my plan I was originaly going to cover the entire thing up with colored paper but when looking through the materials available I found some laminate chips that had a better affect than paper would have. I brock apart the laminate chips into smaller piece so I could place them onto my armature while keeping the shape. To stick the broken laminate chips to the armature I used hot glue. For the eyes, again contridicting my plan, I used colored paper instead of beads. For the nut that my squirrel is holding I broke off some of the seeds of a pinecone and glued them on top of a budle of fabric bits that I also glued together.
