Adam and God

Artist Statement:

For this piece, I combined the styles of Michelangelo and Henri Matisse. I decided to draw a scene painted in the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo where Adam and God are reaching out towards each other; I decided to just draw the hands of Adam and God just so I could get more detail in. I decided that I was going to keep Adam's hand normal and make God's hand in Henri Matisse's style. For Adam's hand, I decided to make a pure contour of it then shade it in. For God's hand, I decided to draw the whole hand in simple shapes then polished it up and filled it in with colors that are like those in Henri Matisse's works.

For materials, I used 4H-HB graphite drawing pencils, colored pencils, an eraser, and my finger. For Adam's hand, I sketched it out with the 4H pencil, then shaded it with darker and darker pencils until I got the color I wanted. I know that you are not supposed to use your finger to blend, but after I accidentally smudged the shading with my finger, I decided to blend the rest of it with my finger and it turned out to look very good. For God's hand, I sketched it out with the 4H pencil then colored it in with the colored pencils to get more of a Henri Matisse style into it.

I am extremely happy about how this piece turned out. I think that I incorporated an even amount of Henri Matisse and Michelangelo into this piece. I feel like this piece also looks like a Dada piece because I took a piece that had already been made and put a twist onto it. If I were to redo this piece I would sketch Adam's had using simple shapes first rather than sketching a pure contour, but other than that, I think this piece turned out perfectly.
