Time Capsule Drawings

Desk Lamp

Materials: Graphite, Blending Stumps

Size: 12"x 9"

Artist Statement:

My prompt for this drawing was to make a still life drawing in 20 minutes. I decided to draw the closest thing to me at that moment which was my desk lamp. I thought that it was going to be fun drawing something with this sphereical cone like shape in 3D. I have drawn 3D objects before, mainly in Math class, but this was such a cool shape that I tried really hard to get it right. The light was bouncing off of the lamp in a really neat way, it a striped pattern. Overall it turned out well but I feel like I could have done much better if I had more time to make it.

For materials I used a 4H graphite drawing pencil, an HB graphite drawing pencil and some blending stumps. I think I should have gone with a darker pencil because the cone around the light was black and I wanted the contrast between the back surface and the light hitting it to be more visable than it did just using an HB pencil.

The Corner

Materials: Graphite, Blending Stumps

Size: 12"x 9"

Artist Statement:

My prompt for this drawing was to draw a corner in my house in 20 minutes. I actually went about 10 minutes over the time limit to do some extra shading. I have this really cool corner in my house because my dad covered up an old chimney with drywall so I made it have some neat angles. To fit the image into the template I had to cut off most of the baseboard but it still turned out fine.

For materials I used a 4H graphite drawing pencil and an HB graphite drawing pencil and some blending stumps to smooth out the shading. This drawing was really fun to shade because of all of the angles and ways light could bounce off of it.

Self Portrait *incomplete*

Materials: Graphite

Size: 12"x 9"

Artist Statement:

My prompt for this one was a self portrait in 20 minutes. 20 minutes is not a very long time to draw a self portrait well so I didn't end up completing it. I rushed drawing it so the outline of the head isn't very good and I would have fixed it if I had more time. Also if I had more time, I would have not put on the facial features so dark on it until I finished the outline and at least predrawn them in a lighter color.

For materials I just used a 4H graphite drawing pencil and an HB graphite drawing pencil because I didn't have enough time or the need to use my blending stumps.
