prismacolor colored pencils
For this piece, we had to draw any species of duck for the duck stamp competition. I chose the male mallard duck because I really like the colors on it and I like the head most of all. I thought that it would look really cool if it was flying in the sky so I drew it flying in the bright blue sky.
I used a variety of Prismacolor colored pencils for this piece and I used the burnishing method to make the colors very deep and solid. I had to layer the colored pencils to get the right colors and feather patterns. For the head, I used a darker tone of green on the outside and a lime green on the inside. Then I used the darker green to darken the inside of the head. For the body, I used a weird brown color and layered in with a dark brown to make a lighter shade of brown.
I used a pencil for the sketch and the rough outlines and then I made the correct shape and used color for the rest of the drawing.
