Duck Stamp

In this project I made an entry for the 2023 Maine junior Duck stamp contest where I have to draw a duck that would livd in maine. I decided on a whistling duck because I like the shape and the simple colors of the duck. I tried to make it look like he was standing in the water but the pencil color was a little bright so I am not too satisfied with the finished product. I took around 10 hours to draw and color the whole duck in. The background took about 2 hours in total because I was really just trying to get it done. 

All I used was colored pencils for all of the color and a white gel pen for the highlights.

I started by finding what duck I wanted to do then I traced the shape so it would look right. Then I started by coloring the bill and the head of the duck then I worked down the neck and stopped at the top of the back because I was stumped on how to create the right texture so I worked from the bottom up and then nailed the back texture.
