Sustained investigation #10

In this project I wanted to focus on the shoes which are these new boots that were made by a company named MSCHF and they are these big red boots that are based off of the cartoon show called astroboy. I wanted to only focus on the boots so thats why they are the only thing that is colored. 

I have recently been focusing on the critiques I have recieved about my material choice so I have been switching up what I have been using. I decided to use encaustic for the boots so they stand out and come off of the paper. I kind of wanted the boots to be smoother but it adds a little character to them with them being rough looking. I used alchol markers for the background and the uppers of the characters so the focus is on the boots.

I started the project by sketching oout a design. I went really big with the boots because thats kind of how they are in real life (maybe a little smaller though). I then copied the sketch down onto the paper. I started coloring with the alcohol markers with the left charcter and I worked down from the head to the knees which is where I stopped because thats where the encaustic would go. I then did the second character which is supposed to be a copy of the left character. Then I did the sky while I waited for the encaustic wax to heat up. When the wax was ready I did the left guys' boots and then I shifted to the right and skipped around until I was finished with the boots. Lastly, I did the floating island the characters were standing on. Overall I like how the whole thing turned out but I didn't like how some of the wax cracked off.
