sustained investigation #12

jean jacket guy

Guash, Paintbrushes, Fine liner

For this project I decided to make a character that is a little more human-like and doesn't have big features like big feet, hands, or head. Back in the beginning of the sustained investigation projects I was brainstorming and thought it would be cool to customize a jean jacket with a design. So in this project I made a character that is wearing the jean jacket and I am going to customize the jean jacket next project. I might do a different design for the real life jacket but I am still thinking.

For materials I origanally wanted to use watercolor but I thought it might be hard to make the right colors because I can't combine two colors like normal paint. So, I used guash because its like a mix of watercolor and acrylic paint. For the black lines I just used a fineliner and did thick lines.

I first found a picture of someone wearing a jean jacket so I could use their bodyshape for my character. I found someone on instagram after searching up streetwear. I changed the guys skin color, hair color and shoe color to make it more original. Also the background of the picture was an elevator which is kind of boring so I made a background that is just matching the color of the design on the jean jacket. I sketched the character out and then failed 6 times to copy it onto the watercolor paper but I finally got it. I used the fineliner to outline the pencil on the paper. Then I painted the jean jacket and the pants first. I then painted the smaller details with a smaller brush. I finished with the background.
