Building Futures Together
Dear colleagues,
You Make a Difference
Particularly as it gets colder, darker and more challenging, it is important to remember the difference we make in contributing to each of the young people who go through Balfron High School. To highlight the impact of our combined work, I have included a screenshot of the attainment picture of last session's S6 from this session's Standards & Quality Report. As you can see, as a result of our offer, input and ethos, all three cohorts (bottom & top 20% and middle 60%) outperformed all of our comparators (Virtual, Stirling & National). This happens are a direct result of the diligence, support and care that you offer - please do remind yourself of the potential impact of your hard work during these challenging times.
Wellbeing & Inclusion Matters (SIP 2)
Congratulations to Andrew Burns and Fiona Fisher who secured temporary PTPS roles last week. Fiona will support Lomond pupils (0.5) along with Elaine J while Andrew will support learners from across the school. As stated in our SIP, our pupil support structures are under review. Claire and the team are working towards an equalisation of caseloads which will mean that the fourth PTPS will continue to have a range of pupils from each House but not exclusively young people on stage 3 and stage 4. Claire will update us on plans in due course as they are agreed & planned.
PEF & the Balfron Larder: Maslow before Blooms?
It is always heartbreaking to hear of the increase in families in our community who rely on additional support. There are some learners in our community who will struggle to concentrate in school because their basic needs are not well taken care of.
Andrew shared an email last week highlighting a shortage in the Balfron Larder. If you are able to spare some household staples, it would be very much appreciated by families who are genuinely struggling. Thanks to Andrew and the Equity team (Nicola, Connor & Amanda) who support our targeted young people and respond to their needs.
Inclusion Matters (SIP 2)
Thanks in advance to the Equalities group. They are leading assemblies to raise the profile of gener based violence as part of 16 Days of Activism this week.
Attainment Matters - Drive for 5 (SIP 4)
Massive thank you to those of you who generously give your time to offer Supported Study sessions in addition to delivering a busy timetable. The offer has been shared with young people and parents. Do contact home if you feel that a young person should be there but is not yet attending.
CLPL Matters (SIP 1)
Come along to Lunch & Learn on Wednesday at lunchtime this week to hear about using Quizlet retrieval practice, games mode and AI to support assessment. Sign-up below.
Finally, thanks for your patience and generosity supporting our S6 pupils in their endeavours to raise money for this year's Children in Need. They were delighted to raise £640.
Have a great week. Thanks in advance for your contribution. #buildingfuturestogether
