Weekly communication for staff
Morning everyone,
Congratulations to Shari on the arrival of her son. Although he arrived early they are receiving the best of care in hospital. We wish the family all the very best. The baby bath is in the staff room for any gifts and we will let you know as soon as we know a name.
Last week saw the launch of 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence. Elaine Johnstone, Lesley Smith, Murrin Thomson and Harry Braid all presented at the launch event. Elaine spoke about Equally Safe at School and Harry & Murrin presented about the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) programme. Harry & Murrin have been asked to speak at the Education Committee by Bryony Monaghan. Congratulations to them both and thank you to Lesley Smith and Elaine Johnstone for delivering MVP and leading on ESAS.
This week we will be awarded our 3rd Sportscotland Gold Schools Award along with the primary schools in the Balfron Learning Community. This is the first time a whole Learning Community have achieved this. Representatives from Sportscotland are coming to the school on Tuesday to present the flags to each of the schools. Our primary colleagues and some pupils will be there too.
Update from the Library - We have a St Andrew's Day display plus lots of books staff might enjoy over the dark winter nights. All teachers and members of our support staff are welcome to borrow from the library. Come in between 8.30am and 9am or any lunchtime and Sheena will set up an account for you.
The Rotary Music Competition will be on Thursday of this week. Good luck to all of the young people that have entered the competition.
On Friday we will have our first Christmas Fair since 2019. There will be stalls, live music and our very own Coffee Shop. S1-3 will have the opportunity to go during class time and S4-6 during Break & Lunchtime.
Have a good week everyone.
Kind regards
Claire

S4 Study Skills
Form Class Activities
All S4 form classes will have a series of study skill activities delivered to them between now and Christmas. This will happen during form class.
It will include training in the Science of Learning in order to improve the effectiveness in the way they study, and filling in weekly study plans with support.
S4 will be re-familiarised with the terms encoding and retrieval, and how we can use study methods that maximise the effectiveness of study though these processes.
Using this language in class with help our S4 to consolidate this learning and see the relevance across their curriculum.
The BHS Senior Study Planner S4 will use can be viewed below.
