Weekly communication for staff

Dear colleagues,

Thanks to all of you who supported the Humanutopia day last week. I have had much positive feedback from staff and young people. I have gone ahead and requested a booking for our current S2 cohort. The first available date is January 2023 so I pencilled that in.

It seems as if study leave has past at a pace as we enter the final week. It will be great to start our new timetable on Monday 6th with our school day back to our pre-pandemic times. Please note that Tuesday period 1 starts at 8.45am. Thanks to our admin colleagues who have been preparing new school time cards for you - I hope you find them useful.

Claire, Phil and I attended a meeting about our ASN Base, proposed for August 2023. It was agreed that the costs to make changes within the buidling will be compared with the costs of creating an addition outside next to the polytunnel. These costs are being worked up. I will keep you informed.

Stirling Council has recently updated guidelines on Pupil Voice and Participation activities, for the clasroom, team or school. You can access these on the Source through the link below:

http://source.stirling.gov.uk/files/cms_attachment/attachment/21846/pupilparticipationguidelines.pdf

Congratulations to Danielle Martin who was successful in securing a permanent maths post with us. Also joining the maths team in August is Stuart Baines. Stuart has experience in both secondary and primary maths and we look forward to welcoming him and learning from his experience. Stuart will be replacing Joanne who will leave a massive gap in maths and activities across the school community (Young Carers, numeracy, primary visits, etc). We will all be very sorry to see Joanne go at the end of term and wish her well in her next chapter back down south of the border.

Have a great week.

Elaine

Some IT shortcuts to share with you classes (and use yourself!)

Checking for Understanding

In S2 Pupil Council, they said occasionally, we move on when one person says they understand. They have asked that we make sure they're all ready. Taking time to incorporate T-P-S, or using mini whiteboards can be great for this. Below there is a one page guide to checking for understanding. Also below that, is a link to Darren Leslie's new blog. He's sharing how he uses mini-whiteboards.

If you would like a new class set of mini whiteboards, please see Jennifer McNeillis. With the support of the Parent Council, we stocked up!

Leadership Challenge - Focus on Now

We are all leaders - in the classroom, projects, teams, Houses, Home areas.

It is easy to be sidetracked and overwhelmed by the challenges we face. In this short input (right), Joe Sanfelippo speaks about the importance of seeking out the smiles and looking after eachother - Give it a go!

Here is a link to his blog and his regular walk to work leadership challenges. I'll share one each week.

Here's an opportunity for women in education to network. Fillian Hamilton is the keynote speaker.
