Weekly communication for staff
Building Futures Together
Dear colleagues,
Thanks to the Art Team for their work with S1 creating the fabulous Remembrance mural on display in the Atrium. It provides an excellent backdrop for the Remembrance Assembly on Monday. If you are not teaching period 2 on Monday, you are most welcome to join S5/6 and their teachers in the theatre for the assembly. The imput is is always a well researched and moving presentation from our Advanced Higher History pupils. Thanks to Gordon for leading and overseeing this.
Male Mental Health Matters (SIP 2)
Thanks to Neil, Rhuaridh and the S4 Mental Health Ambassadors for their assembly input last week. The presentation is below for those who have not been in the assemblies. This important topic will continue into this week S5 and S6 combined for Assembly on Thursday.
It has been great to see staff and pupils participate in the Move for Movember lunchtime activity where we are challenged to walk or run 2KM at 1.15pm each day. My trainers are in the bag this week...honest!
Please note that there will be no assemblies on Friday. S6 will be in PJs and selling Pudsey merchandise to support the Children in Need Charity.
Attainment Matters - Drive for 5 (SIP 4)
Thanks to Phil for the helpful overview that shows what every S5/6 learner has achieved and what they are sitting this session. It is critical that we are all aware of how our courses contribute to the overall attainment of our learners. Perhaps most important, is that we keep a close eye on the Looking Forward data and provide extra targeted support at those less secure learners who need help to secure their best 5 NQs. No young person should be withdrawn from a course without the agreement of their DHT. The DHT will check the overview of the attainment picture for that young person and make the decision with them and their parent based on best possible outcome and needs for applications beyond school.
Wellbeing Matters (SIP 2)
Systematically and purposefully addressing wellbeing is a challenge. This session Claire and the Pupil Support Team have used a HWB Survey to do just that with S1. The data that has been collected has allowed them to intervene with some individuals based on their responses. In addition, 23 S1 pupils have been identified for additional support in Nurture Groups based on their responses. Thanks to Lynne and the team for recognising and planning for these. The Nurture Groups start on Wednesday as per Lynne's email sent on 8/1/24.
Learning & Teaching Matters (SIP 1)
Thanks to Sheena for getting our Tri-Learning underway. The focus this year is up to you. You could choose your Plus One or something you have taken from your Working Group. Have a chat with the rest of your trio in advance - maybe there is something they'd like to see that you can showcase.
Below you'll find the slides containing your groups so have a look through and let me know of any issues. The observation sheet is also there. So, what next?
Arrange observation periods.
Fill in e-cover, even if you are using a non-contact period.
Bring blank copy of observation sheet (attached) to each lesson you are observing.
Bring these, filled in, to meeting of nine in May.
