Strathclyde Park Cyclocross - 12th October 2014

Post date: 01-Nov-2014 17:32:21

Over 300 riders ventured out to the parkland for round 2 of the SCX series. The course was grassy, gravelly, rooty, and technical in all the right places!

The under 14’s race saw Rory and Aaron finish 4th and 11th respectively on the variable surfaces of the race. Some great results for the youngsters who are constantly improving.

A technical course with regular surface changes meant the riders were constantly challenged. Soft grass followed a stony boulder strewn car park and a long gravel path sapped the strength

Anne Chisholm was in the veteran ladies event and despite feeling a lot more comfortable on the cross bike these days was shaken off balance in the forest stretch coming a cropper on the leaf covered roots. Further delayed as the chain was off, she battled on with tired legs to claw back a few competitors finishing 6th vet lady.

In the Vet 40 race, Gordon had a front row start and screamed off along the lumpy potholed car park towards the grass. Calamity struck as the switch in surface at the first turn caused a mass pile up, with Gordon realising all too soon his chain was off, and was at the back of the field. Meanwhile Barry and Ally were up ahead and taking the race full on.

Barry was riding brilliantly on the technical course against a quality field to get one of his best results finishing 6th overall. Gordon battles back up the pecking order and was pleased to finish in 14th place, whilst the ever strong Ally finished 35th.

Ian McGregor took part in his first cross race in the Open category but unfortunately a major mechanical incident cut his ride disappointingly short and he was a DNF.

Ian, looked good until his troubles

It's great to see so many first timers this year, so why don't you give it a shot?
