Edinburgh Activcity Race 3 - Series Win for Grant Martin!
Post date: 19-Mar-2013 21:05:53
The PUCC youth team made the outing on Saturday to the third and final event in the Edinburgh season starter series with a team of 6 riders.
In the youth A boys event it was as close to a forgone conclusion as it could have been for PUCC rider Grant Martin. With an almost unassailable lead of 23 points his closest rival had to win and he need do little more than finish each of Saturday's events to secure the six event series win. Needless to say, Grant took it down to the wire in the final circuit race by entering the final few laps in the lead and then suddenly losing his front wheel and hitting the deck in the sleeting conditions. Now a lap down Grant's race was over, but still needing to finish he rejoined the race with the chasing group a lap later and used all his remaining energy to pace Matthew Peters back into the lead group before falling back sore and exhausted. This turned into an inspiring move for the PUCC team mates and Matty entered the final lap in a strong position, rounded the final bend in the lead and put his head down for the final sprint to the line to take second place and his first podium finish. Very well done to Grant for taking the series win, a fantastic result for Matty and a special mention should also go to the third PUCC rider, Charlie Swan, who continues to make a strong showing and despite riding solo for most of the race he finished well up the field.
Your series winner. Grant Fraser, Perth United CC
The girls youth A and B races were held in conjunction with the youth B boys. Amber King and Derry Wilkinson teamed up initially, but the conditions were foul and a small break split the duo and Amber went on to ride her way to a fantastic second place.
The final mention of the day goes to young, very young, Jake Swan, whose mum had relented to his demands and entered him in the under 8's. event. He raced his way around the TT event with the biggest smile of the day on his face as he crossed the line. Well done Jake.
