Perth Utd had both Fraser Martin and Hector Lancaster competing in the SWSCP Lungbuster TT event last weekend and both posted respectable times although Hector managed to get a 13 min time penalty for turning up late (mix up with no show riders). It was a tough course in cold damp conditions.
On Sunday the weather worsened and Kevin Lancaster "dusted off" his race bike and for the first time raced in the Cat 4 25 mile race in the morning. Sleet, snow, rain and 2 degrees added to the fun. Kevin described the experience as a "real eye opener" riding in a competitive group of 50 plus but did brilliantly to achieve his goal of finishing without crashing ending up 31st of the 45 odd finishers.
The Cat 2/3 race was over the same course but increased to 3 laps. By the afternoon the temperature had soared to about 3 degrees and with the rain and cold, about a third of the field dropped out after the first 2 laps, several with borderline hyperthermia. Hector lost contact with the bunch on the third lap eventually finishing very cold and tired about 10 mins down. Fraser seemed strong and came in with what was left of the main bunch about 5 mins behind the race leaders. Both very creditable for their first 75 plus mile race considering the conditions.
