At Prissick Park, Middlesborough, there is a specific course built for bike racing, which Grant went down to race in for the first time on Saturday the 23rd. The youth races were interspersed between Cat 4 and E/1/2/3 races which gave the youths plenty of time to watch the more experienced riders. The day was run by Cycling Development North East (CDNE) and Scotland was again well represented with riders from Edinburgh Road Club, Ronde Bicycle Outfitters, Classic RT, Discovery Junior CC and Perth Utd CC all making the trip down.
There was no snow, but the cold and fiercely biting wind again made it difficult for the riders. First race up was the Devil which unfortunately for Grant saw him knocked off his bike for the 3rdrace running, this time by a Tyneside Vagabond. Being the Devil, there was no point in getting back on the bike – race over! The 2nd race was a better event with 40 minutes of riding around the circuit, with a bit of confidence lost and a sore knee, the race objective was to finish safely which Grant achieved finishing in the bunch.
